PURPOSE:

The Global Protect VPN (Virtual Private Network) client allows remote access to on-campus network resources. This procedure will walk you through installing, setting up, and using the client on Linux.

VALIDATION:

These instructions have only been tested on Ubuntu Linux 22.04 (both Server and Desktop editions).

 

Global Protect VPN Linux Client Setup

Verify your version of Linux is compatible with Global Protect Version 6.1.2 - Global Protect Compatibility Matrix
INSTALLING THE CLIENT:

  1. Download the installation file from here or via the curl command:  curl https://roseshare.rose-hulman.edu/portal/s/826336093690088626.tgz --output PanGPLinux-6.1.2.tgz –ciphers ‘DEFAULT:!DH’
  2. Unzip tar file, by running:  tar -xvf PanGPLinux-6.1.2.tgz
  3. Install the program: 
  1. On Ubuntu/Debian, this is done through the command sudo dpkg -i GlobalProtect_UI_deb-6.1.2.0_82.deb
  2. On Redhat/CentOS, this is done through the command sudo yum localinstall GlobalProtect_UI_deb-6.1.2.0_82.rpm

SETTING UP THE CLIENT:

  1. After the installation has completed, Global Protect will start automatically, or you can run Global Protect from the Application Launcher.
    1. Global Protect can also be launched from the cli using the command, globalprotect launch-ui
  2. Enter gp.rose-hulman.edu for the portal address and click Connect.
  3. Login with your email address (username@rose-hulman.edu) as your username and password.

You will now be connected to the Global Protect VPN. You will be able to use all the network resources (including DFS and printers) as if you were on campus.

USING THE CLIENT:

  1. Launch the client from the Application Launcher or run the command globalprotect launch-ui from the terminal, to connect or disconnect the VPN.
