PURPOSE:

The Global Protect VPN (Virtual Private Network) client allows remote access to on-campus network resources. This procedure will walk you through installing, setting up, and using the client on Linux.

Linux, Off-campus
 

VALIDATION:

These instructions have only been tested on Ubuntu Linux 20.04 (both Server and Desktop editions).

Global Protect VPN Linux Client Setup

INSTALLING THE CLIENT:

1. Download the installation file from here or via the curl command: curl https://roseshare.rose-hulman.edu/portal/s/162637781701644125980.tgz --output PanGPLinux-5.3.0-c32.tgz --ciphers 'DEFAULT:!DH'
2. Unzip tar file, by running: tar -xvf PanGPLinux-5.3.0-c32.tgz
3. Install the program:
   1. On Ubuntu/Debian, this is done through the command sudo dpkg –i GlobalProtect_deb-5.3.0.0-32.deb
   2. On Redhat/CentOS, this is done through the command sudo yum localinstall GlobalProtect_rpm-5.3.0.0-32.rpm

SETTING UP THE CLIENT:

1. To start the program, simply enter globalprotect and then a prompt should display.
2. From the prompt, run connect -portal gp.rose-hulman.edu
3. Login with your email address (username@rose-hulman.edu) as your username and password.
4. Type quit to exit the prompt.

You will now be connected to the Global Protect VPN. You will be able to use all the network resources (including DFS and printers) as if you were on campus.

USING THE CLIENT:

1. Run the command globalprotect connect from the terminal to activate the VPN.

TURNING OFF THE CLIENT:

1. Run the command globalprotect disconnect from the terminal to disconnect the VPN.
