Create A Microsoft Team 

 

These items are created with a Microsoft Team: 

  • A new Microsoft Team 

  • A new Microsoft 365 Group  

  • A SharePoint Online site and document library to store Teams files  

  • An Exchange Online shared mailbox and calendar  

  • A OneNote Notebook 

 

 

By Default (can be changed by submitting a Service Request) 

  • A Microsoft Team does not show in the Exchange Address Book 

  • A Microsoft Team does not show in the “Groups” section of Outlook 

  • A Microsoft Team is also a Microsoft 365 Members of the Team are not auto-subscribed to the Exchange Online shared mailbox (which means members are not getting this group’s emails to their inbox) 

  • Exchange Online shared mailbox name is: [group name]@rosehulman.onmicrosoft.com 

 

Create a team from scratch: 

  1. Choose Teams on the left side of the app, then select    Join or create a team at the bottom of your teams list. 

  1. Hover over the Create a team card and select   Create team. 

  1. Choose From scratch. 

  1. Decide what kind of team that you want this to be: 
     
    • To limit content and conversation to a specific set of people, choose Private. Private Teams do not show in the Teams gallery and new members must be invited to the Team. 

• For a community or topic that anyone in the org can join, choose Public. Public Teams show in the Teams Gallery and new members may auto-join. 

  1. Name your team and add an optional description. 

  1. When you're done, select Create.

Note: All MS Team names have “Grp” prepended to the name.
