Moving Allowlists/Blocklists from rhspam to Exchange Online

If you maintain an allowlist or blocklist in rhspam, you may use the following procedure to export the list(s) from rhspam and import them into Outlook.:

1.         Open a browser window to rhspam.rose-hulman.edu, and sign in with your network username and password
2.         On the main page, click the Preferences tab.
3.         Under preferences, click Whitelist/Blocklist.
4.         Click Bulk Edit at the top of either the allowed list of addresses, or the blocked list of addresses.
5.         In the Bulk Edit window, click on any address and then press <CTRL>+<A> to select all addresses. Press <CTRL>+<C> to copy the addresses to the Windows clipboard.
6.         Open Windows Notepad or any other plain text editor with which you are comfortable
7.         In Notepad, press <CTRL>+<V> to paste the content of the clipboard.
8.         If the first line in Notepad reads "New Email Address", delete it, so that the first line is a valid address. Your Notepad should now look something like this:

Graphical user interface, text, application<br><br>Description automatically generated

9.         On the File menu, choose Save As, and save the document using a convenient name (such as allowlist.txt) in a convenient location (such as your Desktop).
10.       In Microsoft Outlook, select the Home tab. In the Delete section, select Junk, and click Junk E-mail Options.
11.       In the Junk E-mail Options dialog, choose one of the following options:

  • If the list you are importing is a list of allowed senders, click the Safe Senders tab
  • If the list you are importing is a list of blocked senders, click the Blocked Senders tab

12.       On the appropriate tab, click Import from File…
13.       In the Import Recipients dialog, navigate to the file you created in step #9 above, select it, and click Open.
14.       The dialog should now reflect this list of addresses you just imported, similar to the following.

Table<br><br>Description automatically generated

15.       Click OK to commit your changes and close the dialog box.

Note that changes made in the Outlook desktop client to your allowlist/safe recipients and your blocklist/blocked senders are reflected in the Outlook Web client, and vice versa.
